Get an up-close-and-personal look at the science of songbirds during a bird banding demonstration by Dr. Jon Atwood (Antioch University New England & Biodiversity Research Institute) & Polly Pattison (Harris Center for Conservation Education) on Sunday 7/24 from 8:30 – 9:30 am at Ashuelot River Park in Keene. Jon & Polly are part of a nationwide network of bird researchers who monitor bird populations at over 500 locations across the country by capturing birds in delicate “mist nets,” recording the birds’ age, sex and breeding status, and banding them with uniquely-numbered, lightweight metal “bracelets” before releasing them back into the wild. This event is free, but registration is required. Directions to the banding station (& re-scheduling information in the event of rain) will be provided upon registration. To register, contact Brett Amy Thelen at thelen@harriscenter.org or (603) 358-2065 by Friday 7/22.
